Shift Supervisor – Manufacturing (Continental Day shift)

Job Introduction
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the work activities of the manufacturing crews to meet the Safety, Quality and GMP requirements for the shift. This is a “hands on” position that is involved in a range of activities such as directing work activities, manage manning levels and training of personnel. This position will take the lead in continuous improvement initiatives including Lead, 6S and ISO.
The position will report into the Production Managers and Plant Manager – and will work closely with all other Shift Supervisors, Forepersons and other leadership to ensure maximum effectiveness of the manufacturing organization. Maintain close working relationship with scheduling, warehousing and sales to ensure customer needs are addressed. This position involves hands-on supervision of shift crews.
Responsibilities
Personnel
- Monitor to ensure good Product Quality, and that only product meeting customer requirements is packed for shipment
- Maximize Productivity by closely monitoring and correcting process or equipment issues as they arise
- Coordinate tooling changeovers and supervise production line start-ups
- Ensure all crew members have a clear understanding of their work assignments, and monitor them against same
- Ensure knowledge is shared within the crew as improved process methods are developed, and/or new equipment is added
- Read and complete logbook, downtime sheets and/ or bulletin board for information and instructions at the start of your shift
- Ensure that all the necessary equipment, process, quality and sanitation checks are conducted by crew members, as per established procedures
- Train all crew members, monitor their progress, and work with the Production Managers and Plant Manager to assess performance
- Ensure that tight controls of all materials are maintained and all forms of waste are kept to a minimum
- Report any problems encountered throughout the shift to the Production and Plant Manager and ensure good information exchange with the following crew
- Alert and work closely with Maintenance and/or Technical Support if anything requires attention
- Acquire skills and knowledge to progress and meet all the requirements of the role
- Production priorities are well understood and incorporated in work plans
Safety
- Accountable for the safety of all shift personnel
- Ensure that all the safety policies and procedures are followed and that these are communicated to all members of your team
- Accountable to investigate all injuries and/or safety incidents and communicate suggested corrective actions
- Accountable for housekeeping and ensuring there is no unsafe conditions
- Participate in Joint Health and Safety meetings
- Responsible for plant security on night shifts and weekends
- Communication of safety concerns and issues to management
- Conduct all work in a safe manner, think safety first

Preferred Education and Experience
- Previous experience (5 years) as a Shift Supervisor or similar role in a Manufacturing facility
- Full understanding of industry safety standards
- Comprehensive knowledge of basic software, such as Word and Excel
- The ability to meet the physical demands of the job, such as standing up for long hours and lifting heavy loads occasionally
- Working well within a team
- Ability to multitask
- Leadership and conflict-management skills
- High School Diploma; A degree in Management is an asset
- Previous experience working with ISO and Lean Manufacturing processes an asset
- Previous experience working in Plastic Manufacturing an asset
